Assertive Responding
How to use this worksheet:

This worksheet helps you build skills in assertive communication—expressing your needs, feelings, and opinions clearly and respectfully.

Step 1: Write down beliefs that support assertiveness (for example: “I am worthy of respect” and “Other people deserve honesty”). Identifying these beliefs makes it easier to approach situations with confidence.

Step 2: Practice assertive responses. You write out a real or imagined situation, the assertive words you could use, and the nonverbal behaviours (tone of voice, body posture, eye contact) that strengthen your message.
Step 3: Reflect on what you have learned about being assertive—what worked, what felt difficult, and how it affected the outcome.

How this worksheet helps:
-
Encourages balanced beliefs about yourself and others.
-
Builds confidence by planning ahead for assertive communication.
-
Strengthens awareness of nonverbal signals that support your message.
-
Promotes self-reflection and learning from practice.
